Job Purpose
Provide first line leadership for operating teams to deliver the range of operational key performance indicators (KPI’s) on an hourly and shift basis. In your role you will be accountable for the daily operational aspect of your designated area.  You will be responsible for ensuring the production of quality products in a safe and organised working environment, while also help the business to drive continuous improvement within all areas of focus (SQSCP, Safety Quality Service Cost People) 

Role Key Accountabilities
What:

  • Leading and lagging safety leadership performance. Reduction in total accidents YOY for area.
  • Ensure area achieves conformance to plan on a daily and weekly basis.
  • Labour costs at or better than budget for manning and efficiency ensuring optimising labour numbers across your area of accountability.
  • Yields and materials usage at or better than budget.
  • Accurate allocation of raw materials and packaging within specific MOs by using M3, while ensuring accurate output confirmed for finished goods/WIP or mixes.
  • Driving compliance within M3 by ensuring authorised operators are following procedures by highlighting irregularities. Auditing MOs and stock areas on shift by shift basis.
  • Downtime at or better than budget. This includes performing changeovers to budget or better, while keeping any other downtime to less than budget. Excellent handling of breaks, where appropriate, or use of spellers to ensure production is continuous.
  • Shift manufacturing reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Team skills matrices maintained and checked on monthly basis to ensure full compliance. Any GAPs identified and highlighted to Operational Change Lead/Nightshift Area Lead.
  • Thorough focus in ensuring that direct reports have full training provided to ensure compliance with H&S, consistency in processes and competency in delivering the best results for the business.
  • Quality: Zero withdrawals/recalls and contribute to target complaints per million Year on Year (YoY) improvement. Reduction YoY of product hold for area.
  • Green every day Audit & GMP compliance for own area. Ensuring 5S improvements are driven by yourself by engaging staff and OBP
  • Leads/Engineering with new ideas for implementation.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects within the area by working with OBP Leads and Process Blueprint workstream in order to drive improvements by engaging staff and participate in providing idea. This role will require a complete end – to – end project completion, which will be part of PDR process.
  • Attendance at or above target.

How: 

The results should be delivered by:

  • Communicating proactively with the team via notices, huddles, briefs as appropriate
  • Engaging, motivating and developing the manufacturing team with particular reference to their direct reports
  • Working as a team with their peers in other functions
  • Using Short Interval Control as part of the management system on shift to flag and address shortfalls to standards
  • Auditing processes across your designated area to ensure full compliance to processes from health and safety to quality and costs.
  • Taking key part in Process Audits with Technical team and participate in bi – weekly review to drive actions for improvement.
  • Engaging your direct reports through quarterly 1-2-1s with actions plans put in place to ensure our staff have an opportunity to discuss issues, propose any improvements or ability to develop and progress within the business.
  • FLM must ensure that they develop their step – ups for business continuity.
  • Working with operational management team and SLT in delivering operational and tactical changes that require business to deliver its business targets and goals.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:

  • Experience in managing people including leading a team
  • Have worked in a process FMCG environment
  • Can demonstrate a sound understanding of the manufacturing process
  • GCSE/N5 in Mathematics minimum grade C or equivalent
  • Literacy – clear report writing
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills for breakdowns / quality /waste issues
  • Moderate PC skills to support communication, analysis and reporting

Desirable:

  • Educated to ILM L2 or equivalent in related vocational subject
  • Sound experience and knowledge of MRP ERP systems (e.g. M3, SAP)
  • Experience of leading a project that delivered clear benefits in H&S, Quality or Costs
  • Be conversant with plant and process engineering to understand the nature of issue
  • 3+ years of experience in leading teams within production environment

  • All FLMs will require to undertake mandatory development over a 12-month period

Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)

  • Health and Safety: taking responsibility for safety of yourself and others. Ensuring full compliance with procedures and driving number of hazards reporting up, while accidents down YOY.
  • GMP and Audits: Green every day, while continuously improving the designated area.
  • Food safety and quality: Ensuring quality and food safety is a key focus by auditing compliance to processes and highlighting any issues to management. All materials within designated area must have traceability, while finished goods have the right traceability information attributed to them.
  • Costs: Ensuring labour is to budget or below by running your area efficiently with appropriate staffing levels. Making use of all equipment which is designed to drive usage of labour down. Materials are on budget or below.
  • M3 compliance: Stock accuracy within your designated area is reflective of physical stock and ensuring the materials used within the processes is attributed within 100% accuracy to the relevant MO.
     
  • Decision Making
  • Responsible for staff selection within the recruitment process-operator level.
  • Manages shift staffing levels to agreed manning including the use of agency.
  • Disciplinary authority up to final written warning level.
  • Exercises professional judgement in relation to repair of equipment whilst maintaining duty of care responsibilities for quality, output and safe working.Has authority to suspend production at any time if any of the above conditions are being compromised and refers to
